MY STORY BY AFRO MOSES aka ( ERNEST BAIDOO ) BIO:-


Afro is an incredible artist from Africa talented in writing and performing. He has graced the stage with verse artist which includes," The Wailers, Michael Franti, Australian Chamber Orchestra, various choirs, music for Aussie, International films and much more".

Afro Moses is a multi-award winning, international artist from Ghana, West Africa. He is a singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and teacher with a magnetic personality who has enchanted people with his high energy music, powerful messages, showmanship and colourful stage shows around the world. A tasty blend of Afro beats, reggae, funk, jazz, raga, salsa, percussion, tradional vocals and much more.
 
Using traditional african instruments (eg. the kora, mbira, Seperewa, gonde, talking drum, balafon etc - Afro can play 14 in total) and blending them with modern grooves and technology to create a fusion of hot rhythms that no one can resist dancing too! Every audience is invited to interact with the band from vocals to dance moves and hand percussion instruments which creates an amazing party atmosphere. The stage shows guarantee to uplift,
transport, inspire and move all involved. Dance, jump, sweat and shout! 
 
 Afro Moses became a teenage star in Ghana and was soon producing number one songs and was the first young performer featured on the national news. He was given the nickname "The African James Brown" for his funky music and dance style that was popular at the time.   Soon after, Afro Moses was noticed by one of Bob Marley's tour Managers and taken to Europe. The same man who took Youssou N'Dour out of Senegal.
 
In Denmark, he immediately made his mark taking out several awards such as Best Album, Best Song and Best Live Act. From there, he took his all Danish band “Ngogo Highlife &  ”Moses O'Jah" and toured the world, including some of Europes biggest music festivals..
 
Afro Moses has shared the stage with numerous iconic artists such as Miriam Makeba, Salif Keita, Ziggy and Rita Marley, The Wailers and many more. In Denmark, Afro Moses was also involved with the National Theatre Company, teaching in schools and universities and performing with several bands and orchestras. 
 
Afro first visited Australia at the end of 1999. His tour, which consisted of his band coming directly from Ghana, was sponsored by Triple J and was the biggest tour of any African performer in Australia. The band were featured on ABC TV - Studio 22, Recovery, The 10.30 slot, as well as The Morning Show with Bert Newton and numerous radio stations across the country.   Next, the band were invited back to perform as part of the 2000 Olympic Games, where they performed at some athletes welcoming parties, and as part of the closing ceremony celebrations at Darling Harbour which attracted around 20,000 people.
 

Afro Moses has continued to visit Australia more and more over the last ten years due to his popularity and offers of performances, teaching and projects. Some of these things include...

  • Several tours with his band
  • Moses  (using Australian musicians who originate from Ghana, Senegal, Guinea, New Zealand, USA, Brazil, Jamaica and more). Afro Moses consistently does sell out shows at the Basement in Sydney and other popular venues. The band have also been in headline positions at many festivals such as the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, The Great Escape, Peats Ridge Festival, Darling Harbour for New Year's Eve and many more in front of crowds up to 40,000 people. Afro Moses' music is so varied and has such universal appeal that it can cross over from traditional to mainstream. Therefore, he has shared the stage with many popular mainstream artists in Australia.
  • Afro Moses was invited to compose music with Richard Tognetti, Director of  the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Along with members from midnight oil and one of Australia's most awarded studio producers, Michael Yeserski. They created music for a short film called "Inja", which was a nominee at the Oscar Awards in the USA in 2003.
  • Afro Moses worked with Richard Tognetti and Michael Yeserski again to create music for a film called "Cape of Storms" which was nominated for an APRA award in 2006.
  • Richard Tognetti also featured Afro Moses at the Huntington Festival in December 2005, which was broadcast on the ABC's Classic FM across Australia.
  • Afro Moses has been involved with teaching in schools in Australia over the last six years. He is registered with an agent called "Young Australia Workshop" which provides him with numerous school performances around NSW. Next year, he will be touring to schools in other states.
  • In 2007, Afro was awarded a "Frater Award" for excellence in school performances through the Department of Education.
  • Afro Moses has years of experience working with children and is known for his gentle nature, enthusiasm and the ability to bring even the shyest child out of their shell.  
  • Afro Moses travels back to Ghana and Europe every year and continues to perform, produce hits and teach.
  • In both 2000 and 2002, he was awarded as Ghana's Best International Music Ambassador.
  • 2007 He was invited to perform as part of Ghana's 50th anniversary of Indepence Day, which was a major event with politicians, musicians and other visitors from around the world. Afro performed at a festival on Labadi beach in front of 100,000 people with Samini Batman and Lucky Dawuni.
  • Afro Moses is often invited to perform at many high profile events and venues including the National Theatre.
  • Afro has been personally invited to perform for the President of Ghana and his special guests on several occasions. Other performances have been with tours in Ghana, Nigeria, Togo etc with other top Ghanaian artists, plus charity based festivals to raise money for Aids Orphans etc. Plus, Afro takes it upon himself to visit and perform in hospitals, schools and Gaol's when he is back in Ghana.
  • Just back from a Fundraiser concert in Bali, Ubud in Indonesia organized on the 13th February 2011. Afro Moses is Back.

Afro Moses is a multi-award winning and instrumentalist, international artist, who was a teenage star in his native country of Ghana, West Africa. He was noticed by one of Bob Marley's tour managers and taken to Europe. From there he started to tour the world, including a few guest shows with the Wailers. Afro Moses is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer. Despite having his own music, it's essential for Moses to pay tribute to one of his greatest idols, reggae legend, Bob Marley. Expect a colourful, high energy performance with his many different traditional instruments  from the roots to modern a lot of dancing and Percussion ...however, also be prepared for an Afro Moses flavour....afro beats, Tribal voices, funk, raga and percussion.
